from the heART: new city, new year, new start

With every new year comes new hopes and wishes for the future and what is to come. Also, it is a time when people reflect upon the year that is now in the past, so I will also follow suit and look back on the past year. Two thousand and twelve for me is a year to remember. The highlights that I will always remember are: moving to North Carolina, both of my sisters weddings, my older sisters move to Hawaii, AZ Tough Mudder, and Nashville Marathon with my mom.

Two thousand and thirteen has a lot to live up too but I am hoping it will be just as good, if not better. New city, new year, new start. I already have so much to look forward too this coming year including a road trip to Florida, two trips to Nashville, my mom and sister already have trips planned to visit, and a girls weekend in Charlotte. Others not currently on the calendar but with high hopes of adding include, a trip to visit my sister and brother-in-law in Hawaii, becoming an aunt (fingers crossed, no pressure) and running another marathon perhaps.

from the heART: charlotte life update

Months of updates to be posted. I figure the best way to accomplish this with keeping interest, is through photos.

from the heART: sub 100 degrees

Before moving to North Carolina, my entire life was lived in the beautiful Arizona desert. Grew up in Phoenix, ventured the 1.5 hour drive to Tucson for school, then back up to Phoenix after. Living in this dry dry heat my whole life, I started to convince myself that everywhere else must endure the same melt worthy temperatures. Obviously knowing better, but having not yet experienced it, I will say that it is a very happy day to look at the forecast, during August mind you, and not have a single temperature over 100 degrees.

from the heART: ticket for one

Number 95 on my list, go to a movie by myself, is something that I've come to find people have many different ideas about. I have a number of friends who when I have asked if they have ever gone to a movie alone, emphatically respond, of course. Followed by a puzzled look and the question, haven't you? Up until recently the answer was always no.

Moving to a new city, knowing only a handful of people, and having multiple work days off, I found myself with nothing to do. I had the thought, a movie would be nice, then the thought, but I have no one to call. Screw it, is what my internal more independent self decided, and I went anyways! Yes, alone. I enjoyed the movie (Your Sister's Sister) very much and now understand how seeing a movie alone is not as big of deal as I had previously imagined and would not be opposed to doing it again.

from the heART: geeking out geo style

Many years ago now my old(er) sister introduced our family to the crazy, geek'ed out world of geocaching. www.geocaching.com In simply terms it is a global GPS scavenger hunt. For some, geo caching is a fun, recreational active that we don't take to seriously. However, in the reverse, some take it to the next level completely. Caching in multiple states, having it be incorporated in proposals and even creating a geo logo cough *geo-nerd* cough. But I will say that I have enjoyed my time caching with cache.money very much throughout the years. Now being on my own, not only in a new city but a whole new state, caching can and will take you to places you may not have ever discovered on your own. So, here is my first cache find in North Carolina and I'm sure it probably won't be last.

from the heART: BIG Update

There is lots to tell from where I last left off. The biggest news to have happened started with this decision...

And so one of the biggest adventures I've ever embarked upon began. After accepting my works offer to relocate to North Caroline to expand our Tiny Prints department, life was thrown into a whirlwind of excitement.

The weekend after saying the big "yes" to move, I checked Number 77: go camping, off my list. It was our churches annual camping trip which is always the best time! However, this one was a little bittersweet because I simply adore my church family and my heart will forever be with my sunday school kids. Knowing that I wasn't going to be return after the summer to teach, made my time with my kids, so much more cherished. The weekend was packed full of fun, including bags with Ryan (one of my favorites....but shhhhh don't tell).

Next came a big task to be checked off before heading out of town, Number 33: Finish seasonal painting. Honestly, I think myself and family included, didn't actually think that I was going to accomplish BUT in true Moody fashion with a looming deadline, I cranked them out and I am happy to say that done they are (even if it was the morning I left).

Then came the move...
Let me take just a moment to point out that I put Number 5: Move out of Arizona on my list, with a little hesitation in regards that I was not sure if this would EVER be accomplished. Paired with when I was making my list and my younger sister told me that I should put an asterix next to a few, this included, because I would never cross off, didn't exactly give me much hope.

Well, all I can say is that it was nothing short of God working largely in my life that it all worked out as well as it has. After as much planning as needed, a TON of handy work and time from my Dad, much support from my Mom, a little guilt from my younger sister, a lot of excitement from Hawaii, Lexi and I left Phoenix July 7th to make the trek across the country to end at my new home in Charlotte, North Carolina July 11th. I could not be more thankful for all the encouragement from my entire family and friends and am looking forward to exploring and seeing what this Queen City has to offer.

One ostrich farm, three down pours, four beds, hundreds of ants, and eight state signs later, we made it to Charlotte! Huge shout out to my sister, best friend, and great road tripper for going on this journey with me!

from the heART: number 45

When someone tells you that there is ladies night for paint balling, the only question that needs to be asked is, when are we going?

I was not at all sure what to expect from this adventure. My only reference for paint balling came from what I'd seen in the movies, which goes one of two ways, super scary and intense like in Failure to Launch, or totally fun and non threatening like in Ten Things I Hate About You. I would say our experience fell somewhere in the middle.

Sure I was unaware what the heck I was doing during the first round and didn't even fire a single shot. But with that, there was only room for improvement and no looking back. Turned out to be a blast, a feeling I'm sure not shared by our entire group. But would I do it again? Another easy answer, OH HECK YES!!

from the heART: it's pie time

Number 42: make a homemade pie from scratch

The inspiration for my 101 list came from my older sister who made a list and she made a list because my sister in law made a list. As our lists would have it, some of our items happened to be the same, including making a pie from scratch. So I was delighted when my sister in law wanted to complete this one together.

I am going to honest and not at all humble for a moment and make the bold statement that our pie turned out awesome and tasted even better. However, to bring me back down now, I will follow that with, I had no idea just how easy pie baking actually is. This realization made me question why this was the first time I have attempted pie baking and wonder why I haven't been making pies for years. Lesson quickly learned: bake more pies!
